The latest FEMA communications debacle severely frayed the public's trust in the agency. As most in the PR space—and general public—know by now, FEMA employees were recently busted posing as reporters during a mock press conference on the California wildfires. As the fires subsided, the outrage over FEMA's handling of the situation has grown more intense. My take: A well thought out and administered blog could help. It wouldn't be a magic potion to cure all that ails FEMA, but it would begin to foster an open dialogue and start a conversation, providing a foundation of trust and authenticity between the agency and the public.
